laura has a number of conversations with her best friend donna about their lives; they're key to moving the narrative forward. the treatment of violence is troubling from a feminist point of view and a good example of how the bechdel test is not the same as a misogyny test.

In all fairness, the moral of the Twin Peaks franchise is that pretending abusive male family members don't exist only causes problems. Outside the English speaking world, the movie's violence was seen as highlighting social problems for women rather than being symptomatic of those problems.
