Bechdel Test Movie List

I haven't seen this since it came out, but I distinctly recall the two female vulcanologists investigating the volcano underground. Sadly I only distinctly recall this because of the surprise I felt at seeing two women in a film doing something interesting and not guffing on about men or calories.

There is a short scene where the two vulcanologists discuss the situation, but not in a way that divulges any plot information. And they they very quickly move on to how cute Tommy Lee Jones is, despite the fact that he is 23 years older than Anne Heche.

In another scene, TLJ's teenage daughter is injured by stray lava and they need to run to safety. He instantly picks her up, jumps on the hood of a car, then as the car is surrounded makes a huge leap to safe ground whilst still holding her. Not bad for 51 years old TLJ!

It would have made more sense for him to get her to run with him to safety in the first instance.

In short, it just demonstrates, in a ridiculous manner, how awesome and heroic the male protagonist was.

In other scenes, hundreds of Police and Fire officers are seen in action, but none of them are women.

Dr. Barnes (Heche) and her co-worker, Rachel (Laurie Lathem), investigate the tunnel where the CPW workers died and discuss their observations. I don't believe they even mention Roark (Jones) or any other man.
