Just saw this, wish I would've checked this beforehand so I could have taken better notes.

Overall, the two female main characters have a pretty strong presence in the film. There's not much sexualization, they definitely stand on their own, and the film would be very incomplete without them.

That said, this a Carpenter film, so there's not a ton of dialogue. And the attacking gang is sort of portrayed as all-male, but totally flat and amorphous, dehumanized to the point of just being considered zombies. The film really revolves around that mob, so Julie and Leigh, along with other pairs of characters, do interact on that topic quite a bit.

I'd argue those lines should count in favor of the test. In case that's not enough for purists, I just went back and spotchecked a random middle spot: in the 43rd minute, Julie answers Leigh's question as to whether there is a power outage, telling her the streetlights are still on.

Had the movie going in the background while writing that last comment and right as I posted, in the 52nd minute, Leigh answers Julie's question again, this time about phone lines being down.
