Hedwig and her agent talk about her bookings. Hedwig and her mother talk about leaving Germany.

Thomas disagreed with the rating and said:
But Hedwig is not a woman. Hedwig is a man who has been forced into a female role, who forces his female lover into a male role and who ultimately resumes the male role himself.

Yes, but there are scenes where Yitzhak talks to the manager as well.

This movie is a lot more in the gray about its Bechdel rating since the genders of some of its characters are more ambiguous.

I must strongly disagree with Thomas; at the very least, it is heavily implied, both in exposition and in song, that Hedwig is a trans* woman, not "a man who has been forced into a female role." Even if you assume that the choice to undergo sex reassignment surgery wasn't entirely the product of free will, it's quite clear that she identifies as female.

And even if she didn't, I highly doubt she would identify as male, and it seems within the spirit of the test to construe "women" as "non-men" when relevant.

I would also echo Megan's point; the movie has a few characters (perhaps most notably Yitzhak) whose gender identities are unclear.

I disagree with Mark because Hedwig very clearly states on multiple occasions that he lost a piece of himself when becoming a woman to leave Germany. She shows regret and unhappiness at her own sacrifice. Just because she was a man and now is pretty much a Barbie doll doesn't mean that she wanted to be in that situation.
