Several important female characters, Juliet, Nanette the frog and Lady Blueberry. Juliet and Nanette talk to each other often, but their conversations often involve Gnomeo.

I think it passes. Juliet and Nanette talk about the (lack of) status of women also. Juliet is put on a pedestal by her dad (literally! glued there!) and she is not the type of girl that likes this.

We took our 7 year old daughter to see this on her birthday, and we all liked it. There is enough action and slapstick for kids, enough in jokes about Shakespeare for adults, and enough silliness to appeal to all.

The only part that bothered me was the whole montage of Juliet getting ready to see Gnomeo....

It's a good movie...I just slightly disagree. Juliet and Nanette's conversations center around the men in the film (Juliet's dad, Gnomeo, Tybalt, ect). It starts off with her trying to prove herself, to prove she isn't "fragile" to her father, which would have been great if the rest of the movie wasn't spent centered around Gnomeo, Benny and Tybalt, glorifing heterosexual normality and the pay off isn't "Hey, Juliet survived!" it's "Hey, Juliet got Gnomeo!"
