This movie has several female stars, including Lana Turner, Juanita Moore and Doris Day. It's a movie about race and class told through the story of a black woman (Moore) who goes to work for a white woman (Turner), and the trials of their two daughters (Day and Susan Kohner) one of whom is black and tries to pass for white.

And the cited movie of 1959 is a remake, and I can't imagine it is better than the first one of 1934. Elements of the story I guess are standard fare, but the inter-relationships of the four women are front and center in my mind. And in 1934! Wow.
