Michelle Williams's character speaks to her grandmother, but the focus of the conversation is about her grandfather. She also speaks to a nurse she works with, but their conversation is about her husband.

I think its unfair to ask a romantic film that is a character study about a failed marriage in today's society to pass the test. this hardly any conversation with any characters that isn't about gosling/williams relationship.

I'd also like to point out that there is no conversation between two men that is not about a woman, and I haven't watched it in a while but I'm sure Michelle Williams character talks to the daughter at some stage. It's also a little unfair to put a movie that really only has two characters to the test

It isn't unfair to put this movie to the test, because we're putting every kind of movie to the test, no matter what the subject matter is. And it doesn't matter how the men in this particular movie are written either. Listing this movie along all the others just helps build an overall picture of the visibility of women in movies, and whether or not they express anything that's unrelated to men. That's all.

Disagreeing with the rating because you didn't want the movie to be included on this site is unfair.

Nick and Xavier! If you do not understand the rules of the Bechdel Test please look them over once more. It's not that hard!

I actually think this movie passed all 3 criteria. Michelle Williams does mostly talk to her grandmother about her grandfather, but she also just talks about love in general and about smoking (or not smoking) in her nursing home room. She also reads to her grandmother from a romance novel. It's not a lot of talking about something other than a man, but it does happen, and that's all it needs to pass the test.

It passes all 3 unless women under 18 don't count.

Cindy (the mother) talks to Frankie (her daughter) about putting on clothes for school.
