2012 features a number of named female characters, however, they tend to be defined in terms of their relation to the men in the movie (daughter, ex-wife, mother, etc.). Fittingly, their screen time and dialogue pales in comparison to that of the men.

While many of these women do appear in scenes together, I can't recall a single instance wherein two women speak to each other, *at all*. There are a few scenes in which Female A addresses Female B, but Female B does not answer. Even the panicked group scenes common to action/adventure and horror films do not inspire such an exchange.

Of course, the film runs long at 2 1/2 hours+, and my partner and I talked over most of it - so it's entirely possible that we missed the one lone scene that meets the criteria. I doubt it, though.

You missed a conversation between Kate and Tamara.
Kate: That's a nice hat.
Tamara: Thanks, Yuri gave it to me. He's so dreamy ...
... etc etc. Fail!

There is also another conversation between Kate and Tamara, in the jumbo jet, where they talk about how they met their boyfriends... and, oh yes, about breast implants...

There is a 2 line exchange between the 2 named women, Kate and Tamara about Kate‘s daughter, that she likes hats and why before they start talking about men. It’s a pretty lame pass but it passes all 3 tests.

I have to agree with the poster before. The rating is clearly false as Kate and Tamara talk about Lilly's affinity to hats and that Tamara also had that when she was a child.

Sure, the movie doesn't set any feminist standards, but technically it's a clear pass of all 3 tests, so the rating should be changed.

I am actually really pissed at the comments on this post. They claim the rating is wrong. Did they even read the rules? The third rule is that they got to talk about something other than a man. And in the "hat" thing, THEY ARE STILL MENTIONING A MAN. This movie does NOT pass the Bechdel test.
