They're in the same room, but Carter and Vala don't actually speak to each other.

When they are excavating what they think is the Ark on Dakara, both Carter and Vala are involved as they discuss Ori worshippers finding them. There's more unspoken communication from Carter, Mitchell and Teal'c, as Vala and Daniel are closer to the Ori plotline than anyone else (something Mitchell is often associated with because he and Vala are newer characters.) However, since Mitchell considers SG-1 as a collective and defers to Carter, a former leader of the team often (although just barely - he really respects Teal'c's guidance and knows to back off on Daniel and Vala's ares of expertise - though not without some teasing) a lot of it is also that he knows the others will speak if they feel the need.
