The Queen and Queen Mother talk to each other regularly, but almost always about the Prime Minister, or Prince Charles or "The Boys." Sometimes they talk about Diana, but there's always a man in the conversation somewhere. They have a very important talk near the end of the film about the nature of the Queen's vow, and her duty to her people.

Borderline? or shameful failure?

This isn't dubious at all, it passes with flying colors. The talk at the end that you dismiss out of hand addresses the crux of the conflict of the movie. It's the turnaround point, and more specific to the Bechdel test, it has absolutely nothing to do with a man at all, it's all about Queen Elizabeth and her relationship to her position as Queen, and the limited powers she possesses.

Sensemaker disagreed with the rating and said:
Nothing dubious about it. I frankly do not understand what Zenobia mean by "always a man in the conversation somewhere". The discussion is the queen's position and her relation to her people (which, granted, includes men, but a discussion about a queen's relation to her people is not a discussion about a man). Besides, the entire plot or conflict is completely dominated by two women: Diana and the Queen.

I disagree with the rating. There is nothing dubious about this movie passing the test.
