There are many named female characters in addition to the lead, Molly Ringwald. They take about all kinds of things including boys but the film was written and directed by John Hughes. He treats not only women much better than most Hollywood creators, but also teens and kids. The film passes the Bechdel Test with flying colors and it also very forward thinking and progressive for movies in 1984.

The entire premise of this movie is that Molly Ringwald's character wants to be with Jake Ryan. It's central to the plot that she end up with Jake. She does talk to her friend about her family forgetting her birthday, but in the end, this movie is about a girl obsessing over a boy.
