Black Narcissus is set in a nunnery in the Himalayas and has some top actors - Deborah Kerr, Kathleen Byron, Flora Robson, Jean Simmons. Although the story in part concerns men and the emotional disruption they can cause, whether here and now or in memory, the film has a wider reach and there are plenty of scenes without men and not talking about men.

It is based on a novel by a woman, Rumer Godden, which may have some bearing on all this.

Trying to remember as much as I can about makes it pass the test:
1. Mother Superior talks to Sister Clodagh about which nuns she can take with her to the Himalayas to set up a nunnery.
2. Some named nuns talk about a fellow nun's deteriorating health.
3. They also talk about the wind and weather, working hard, gardening, praying and exhaustion.
4. In the beginning of the film a class is taking place with women and girls as students. The female teacher is heard teaching them.
