I rated the movie like this, because Stevie and her mom talk to each other in the movie, who are both female. However the mom isn't the actual mom -- it's her mom in her own dreams. Also, they don't talk that much to each other, and Stevie is worried about her parents' breakup a lot of the time. This means she talks not only about a man, her father, but she still talks much about him (in an indirect way).
