I love this movie! It has 11 named female characters! 9 if you only count humanoids. It has a female villian and female monarch.
The movie starts with Mariposa teaching Willa about constellations. Mariposa talks about how she would rather read than go to a party. Henna notices she didn't go to the party and missed seeing her there. Henna and Mariposa talk about feeling out of place in the world. When the queen is poisoned 3 females go on a quest to find an antidote. Willa is the only one to stay behind with the prince. I like that it is not the main 'barbie' role female that is with the prince the majority of the movie. Mariposa and the twins go on their quest and face problems, and meet other females, including a cute bunny like creature, and two mermaids.
