Near the start of the film Sonia (Liv Ullmann) and a conversation with her teenage daughter Kit (Ione Skye) where Kit asks Sonia to do something with her and complains when she refuses. Interestingly, Sonia brings up a boy near the end to try and distract Kit from her own (Sonia's) desire to be isolated but that only upsets Kit.
