It’s mostly about the nonlinear interactions between two individuals who are originally presented as boy and girl, but their gender identity is a heavily nuanced topic throughout the book. They have lots of conversations together. Additionally, they bond over a tv show of two girls who are best friends and fight monsters together. The two girls from the show also share conversations about friendship and the unknown. Given it’s powerful transgender allegories and fabulous representation of strong and flawed women, I believe it deserves the highest rating.
