"Grandma" does not count as a female character name. Thus, this movie only has one female named character.

I disagree with Scott above.

His ex partner Terry is named. She is named after his favourite hockey player, Terry O’Rielly, the Tasmanian Devil.

I can agree to an extent that “Grandma” is not a named character, but Grandma and Virginia are the two most important people in this man’s life (Happy), and both women interact consistently in a positive way through out the film.

As to their conversations between each other that aren’t about men.. I don’t have a strong argument for that.

But Happy Gilmore does have two named Characters, Virginia and Terry (if we don’t include grandma).
