The scene between Mother Sister and Jade does start about a man, but then they have a conversation about hair that is not about a man from approximately 0:23.47 to 0:24.14. The lines of this conversation are:
Jade: “This might take a little bit of time, Mother Sister”.
Mother Sister: “I got nowhere to go. We haven’t had a good sit-down for a long while. Tender-headed runs in my family. Are you tender-headed?”
Jade: “Yeah, me, too.”
Mother Sister: “I don’t fool with it. That’s why only you can touch it. Ouch!”
Jade: “I’m sorry, Mother Sister. The comb got caught.”
Mother Sister: “Be gentle, child. Mother Sister’s an old woman.”
Jade: “Yes, Mother Sister”
Because this is a conversation between two named female characters, and is not about a man, it passes the test.
0:06.58 - Addy: “Hi, Mom.”
This movie contains more than two named female characters, but in this early scene Olivia and Addy greet each other. They converse, not about a man, which technically passes the test. I couldn’t find a stronger conversation that wasn’t about a man unfortunately but I believe this short greeting is still enough to pass the letter of the Bechdel test (perhaps it still fails the spirit of the test though).
