There are no women with talking parts in the movie. Some versions don't show any women except in crowd shots. The Robert Harris restoration (the most commonly available version) includes some medium shots of nuns.

Sometimes I think its better to go the Lawrence route than to have a token girlfriend or to use an actress as window dressing.

Still a wonderful film.

The reason that there are no women in this film is that no women were actually (significantly) involved in the events portrayed. Lawrence never even had any serious involvement with any women, even after the war, and may never have even had a minor involvement (other than friendships). If this movie was "changed" to pass the test, the changes would feel so contrived (and historically inaccurate) as to render the movie no longer a masterpiece.

I think this movie holds the record for longest timespan during a movie, without having a woman in any role ( aside background statists ) , but yes, what Riff said
