The film's titular protagonist is a man (Dr. T), but the film is dominated by a female ensemble. Most of them play named female characters most of whom talk with one another -- and not just about men. Just to give two examples: 1) there is a scene where Deedee, her sister Connie, and Deedee's bridesmaid Marilyn talk about their dresses and the wedding during bridesmaid fittings, 2) there is a scene where Deedee and Marilyn talk about a famous local legend of "the lady in the lake."
