This is one of those very, very rare films that actually fails the "reverse" Bechdel Test.
The cast is almost exclusively female. There is a single important male character, and a couple of minor (un-named) male characters who speak mostly un-subtitled Russian. The story revolves around a mysterious school for orphan girls, and every conversation relates to the girls themselves, or their situation.
The male character has a brief conversation with two (un-named) thugs at the very end of the film, but most of that conversation is about the girls.
So many classic, landmark films have failed the Bechdel Test, it's quite a novelty to see one that actually goes the other way.
