The main character has a husband and two male lovers. The husband (Hal Halbrook) and Lover number 1 (Barry Bostwick) have a long and convoluted conversation, in which they try to fool each other at the beginning, but then the lover cannot carry out the murder on behalf of the wife. Allison Sinclair (Katharine Ross) has also conversations with Lover 1 about his career as a wannabe actor and her need to lead a wealthy life. Apart from Allison, other female characters are Mrs Mathews (Jeff Donnell), Lover Number 2's housekeeper, who is witness when Allison shows up late at night pretending to freak out. Another character is the TV host (Victoria Carroll), who plays dumb and speaks with Sinclair and the TV host. Another character is Edwina (Maida Severn), the charity garden party hostess. But all these female characters do not talk to each other. Allison speaks to the two lovers and her husband, and George Brubaker (Richard Anderson) speaks more to the husband than to Allison.

Alison speaks to Marta, asking her to get the mail, and Marta says she will. Alison also has a conversation with a woman at the garden party, but that is about Arthur. But she also asks another woman (possibly a maid?) for a newspaper and is brought the paper.
