While this movie has more than one named female (over five), they are merely cameos and are only there to set up the other characters.

The Bechdel test does not specify two female leads.

While the 2nd named females who converse with Luisa are not main characters, their conversations are major plot points and are critical to Luisa's story.

I agree with what has been said. Definitely more than 1 named female character who is important to the plot.

Also "cameo" does not mean "small part." A cameo is a tiny appearance by a celebrity, usually included for the novelty of it - such as Hitchcock walking by in the background of every movie he made. The roles for women in this film were short, but important and definitely not included for novelty.

To be more specific, Luisa first talks to an old woman (who is named, I just can't remember it) after noticing a toy with her name written on it. Luisa says that it's her name and the old woman responds saying that it's a lovely name.

Luisa later talks to Chuy's wife Mabel several times. Once Mabel remarks that Luisa is good with children and should have her own, and another time Luisa is asking her about the different coves and beaches in the area.

So this movie does pass the parameters of the test.

Yeah, seriously, this passes; there is one of the main character Luisa and several smaller, roles with named female characters who talk to her. It's been awhile so I don't remember a lot of the film. But, there is definitely a conversation between Luisa and Mabel about finding a place to live on the beach.

Like Children of Men, another Alfonso Cuaron film, this movie has one main woman character, but has other named minor characters that impact the plot in ways that don't directly concern the male characters.

There are more then 2 female characters in this movie, one of them is also a main character, and their dialogues are really important for the plot.
