There's a conversation in the beginning, in the abortion clinic: the main character is talking with a female colleague about faith and religion. There's a sentence about a boy, but that's not very relevant for the conversation, just an humorous point.

I think the movie passes the test.

Even though the muse and god are not human, they still identify as female and are strong main characters who do interact with the human Bethany.

The only reason god doesn't "speak" is because her unfiltered voice literally blows human minds. She still reacts to Bethany's questions as best as she can and pays her loving (even if playful) attention.

The muse talks to Bethany about a lot of things such as faith and the folly of pride.

Definitely passes. The muse's name is Serendipity, the Muse of Inspiration. The 13th Apostle mentions her name when she first shows up.

There is nothing dubious about it. Bethany and Liz have a conversation about Bethany's faith and why she goes to church, and later Bethany and Serendipity discuss the movies Serendipity inspired.

I agree that The conversation between Bethany and Liz counts, But in the conversation between Serendipity and Bethany Serendipity states that she is not technically a woman.

Could it not be argued that Bethany's conversations with Alan Rickman count because he is God's voice?

I really want this movie to pass!

I mean I really want the rating to be right. But Liz suggests that Bethany gets "filled" then questions her sexuality. As much as I love the conversation between Bethany and Serendipity, Serendipity lacks definition.

Kevin Smith is more inclusive than most mainstream writers but his stories typically revolve around straight white males. Which is fine because he is a straight white male and he doesnt like to talk about things he hasnt experienced. Most of his movies are about his life, as a metaphor. Clerks practically was his life before his film career.

In addition to the Liz and Bethany about abortion/religion, there was a really good deleted scene where Bethany talks to a young woman about her third abortion. Having said all that, if you pay close attention the majority of conversations in the movie are between men, or between Bethany and a man, or two.
