Bechdel Test Movie List

This is only here because it is one of the movies in the new Master Science Theatre on Netflix. This movie is standard 60's garbage sci-fi and it fails the Bechdel Test so utterly is should be the anti-example. Women in the film exist almost exclusively to service the male characters. Their function is either to suck up to their male colleagues or literally do nothing but serve as a sex object for one of the films more unlikable characters. There are many odd things about this movie, but perhaps the strangest is that a major character is undeniably gay. He also happens to to be wearing a shirt with the most plunging neckline in the entire film, which is creepy, mainly because he is so elderly. (Not to be ageist, but this is a strange choice for showing skin.). His effeminacy is dissonant to the blunt patriarchal themes of this terrible film and are so ham-handed it's hard to imagine this characterization was done intentionally. Maybe it's the Rock Hudson effect- hard to say. Anyway, it would be far too subtle for this films blunt approach to everything to honestly present this character as actually gay. It has to be a miscalculation.
