Agnese is 15,in a small Sicilian town, when her sister Matilde's fiance gets Agnese pregnant. Frantic family machinations ensue, between Agnese, sister Matilda, two other sisters, her mother, Consolata, the sympathetic house keeper and a huge cast of brothers, fathers, attorneys, cops, judges, a baron and a midwife, priests and hangers-on try to uphold 'honor and family'. Surprisingly, this comedy is searingly funny. Smart, strong, sympathetic women use all their ingenuity to survive a grotesquely sexist society.
