This film passes 3 of 3 tests because young Nadine and young Krista talk about a caterpillar.

Like the previous comment says it passes because of that conversation and Nadine also bickers with her mom twice about not wanting to go to school.

Because the mother and Nadine have a conversation about Nadine in the mother's office and a conversation about Nadine not wanting to go to school in the car before that.

This film was comedic but also sad so I think it really captures what it was like being 17. I agree with the rating because the film follows Nadine and her relationships with her best friend, her brother, and her mother.

The Edge of Seventeen is written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig, and details the struggles that a teenage girl faces as she is on the cusp of being 17. We meet the protagonist Nadine, who last her father and lives with her mother and brother. Her brother, Darian, is the all star boy who can do no wrong. Nadine's best friend, Krista, begins dating Darian. This is where Nadine's problems start. She struggles to keep her friendship with Krista going, and she disapproves of their relationship. Nadine clashes with her mother. While this is happening, she is dealing with crushes at school and trying to fit in.

There is very little outside of white, heterosexual representation in this film. There is no LGBTQ representation. There are only a few people of color, and there is only one named character who is a person of color. Nadine's love interest, Erwin, is Asian, and Nadine rebuffs his advances at her until the very end. Asian men are traditionally not the male leads or love interests in cinema, and are depicted as inferior or feminized. While Nadine ignores Erwin's advances and sees him as nothing more than a friend for the majority of the film, she doesn't humiliate or try to fetishize him. They do end up together in the end.

Overall, this movie does pass the Bechdel test. There are scenes where Nadine and her mother are arguing, specifically over going to school. After part I of the movie, the majority of the scenes between Nadine and Krista revolve around them arguing over Darian.
