In the scene that sets off the main plot, Chris Parker gets a call from her friend Brenda begging her to come a pick her up from the bus station when she has second thoughts about running away from home and her stepmom.
While the conversation mentions men, it's only incidentally and as part of the crazy people she's run into the city,
