A rare film (based on a play) with three main characters--all women of different ages: one a pyromaniacal psychologically wounded teenager, the second a middle aged mysteriously aloof governess, and the third an overbearingly indulgent grandmother. Throw in the real-life father of the teenage actress as a guilt-surviving butler, and you have a movie where no conversation is pointedly about a man, but all explore death, life, and justice to reveal human nature and its extreme-to-the-point-of-violence need for love, companionship and understanding. Deep development and twisted plot with characters that just happen to be female (but could be substituted by a male-character-trio) make it a really important film.
