Mon Mothma, the leader of the Rebel Alliance, was also in it. I don't recall whether she and Leia talked on screen, but there was at least two female characters.

The disagreement comments are incorrect. Mon Mothma only appears in Return of the Jedi. The only rebel leaders in this film are the various generals in Hoth. If I remember correctly, this is the only Star Wars film with only one named female character.

If I'm correctly informed the Emperor was originally played by a woman, and then in the new edition they recut it with Ian Mcdirmid's face. I've not seen the original, so can't say.

It doesn't matter if the Emperor was PLAYED by a woman, it matters if the character was a woman, and the Emperor was not and was never intended to be female (voice was male, face was female, eyes were chimp.)

Cloudis disagreed with the rating and said:
There is a woman in the Hoth command center. Her name is Toryn Farr and she talks to Leia once I'm pretty sure. And it's not about a man for sure!!!!

Max disagreed with the rating and said:
Cloudis is right- Toryn Farr in Hoth command is certainly a woman. She says "standby for ion cannon" to Leia.

I'm not sure I disagree or not. Many of us know there are names for Mon Mothma and Toryn Farr and possibly other women, but they were never named in the movie. I don't know if they were even named in the credits of the original release.
