I enjoyed the movie, and it wasn't unreasonable given the setting that there weren't more and more significant women. Mary Donovan was a much better role than the Clingy or the Saintly Wife, none of the women were highly sexualized, and in general there was nothing annoying or jarring about them.
Still fails The Test, though.

Actually, I believe this movie (barely) passes the test. Most of the conversations between Mary and her daughters are about her husband/their father but during a dinner scene, the youngest daughter, Peggy, starts to eat a piece of bread. Mary tells Peggy "Not before grace" and Peggy argues back "I'm hungry"
Still fails The Test, though.
