Almost all of the many characters are women, sharing acting ambitions and the poverty that's brought them. There's certainly one - but undoubtedly more - conversations about something other than men, and absolutely none about housewifery! Kate Hepburn, as usual, is awesome, and Ginger Roger's whip-like tongue was pure delight to hear. Crazy such a film was made in 1937, considering the films made decades later (eg. the facepalm 50's, the unfortunate present)

I came here to find if Stage Door, currently available on the BBC iPlayer, was the first film to pass the test. Obvs not, but as the reviewer said, there are precious few lines of dialog that do NOT meet the crieria.

While many of the named female characters tend towards lighthearted, competitive antagonism in their conversations with each other, there are also several moments of uplifting and elevating of each other. It's a delight of a film, amidst so many others released in the same bracket of years that absolutely don't pass the Test.
