At the beginning Mary Denham tells Aunt Cassie not to worry about the case to declare her insane, and Cassie replies "Why should I worry, I'm the only sane person in a family of nitwits".
At the end, Cassie and Mary talk about Cassie's money. Mary is protesting, as Cassie's house is burning, and with it her money. Cassie responds she is glad of it, as money breeds evil. Mary cracks, and confesses that she only pretended to love Cassie, in order to get the money, and confesses to murder. She also implicates her husband later, but the initial part of the conversation is all about Mary, Cassie, and Cassie's money.
