There are several named female characters and several of them talk to each other about things other than men. Because the film focuses mostly on Madonna, most of these conversations are between her and other women such as her friend, Sandra Bernhard, her childhood friend, Moira, and the back-up singers, Donna and Niki. These conversations include topics such as their careers, fame, ambition, art, and relationships between women. One particularly disturbing, not-very-feminist moment is when Madonna under-reacts to the make-up artist, Sharon, discussing that she was sexually assaulted. There are very feminist-friendly aspects of the film, though, too, such as the exploration of gender and gender subversion in Madonna's concert performances.
