Paula Abdul is, debatably, the only named female character in the film.

Do you think that all films must pass the Bechdel-test?

Why must a film like Brüno pass this test?

I mean it needn't to be bad if a film doesn't pass the test.

It sounds a bit like ideologists in a dictatorship who test all cultural products and the thoughts of the people.

They must correspond with the central ideology.

There are several named females in this film with speaking roles, but none of them are part of the main plot line or core cast.

@ James T. Kirk- I don't think all movies need to pass the test. Bruno is about a self-involved gay male fashionista, it seems appropriate to the plot line that there may not be a developed female presence (what the Bechdel test is assessing). I don't think all movies need to pass the test, but I think the premise of the Bechdel test is sound. Could you imagine if the films listed didn't pass the test if the criteria were changed to male presence? Where's the equality?

I think that sometimes when homosexual men are at the center of a movie then the film is unlikely to pass the test, and it's not aiming to, either. But Bruno gets listed just like every other film in order to get a better snapshot of how women are represented in film.

Sex and the City 2 passed the Becdel test and Let the Right One In didn't. I've seen one and would see it again and wouldn't touch the other with a 10-ft.-pole. Guess which is which.

I think that it is kind of appropriate that there is no females in a movie that is about a Gay fashionista. It is also got only two actual characters, bruno and his producer, and then all the others are the general public left to decide if it is for real.
