Bechdel Test Movie List

I don't disagree with the rating, but it bears mentioning that the only real interchange between two women was not shared with the viewers. It was revealed that Lisa and Ponyo's mother spoke to each other for many hours, and it can appropriately be assumed that most of the speaking could have been about something other than a man, but the movie does not reveal what it was that they discussed.

The old women talk to each other, too. I imagine it still counts when men/boys are around?

There is a great deal of caretaking of Lisa for Ponyo, in which she entrusts her with real and important tasks, which she does not give to her son.
The women at the senior center talk to each other about survival and revival and running and tsunamis and fish and signs and WHAT THEY THINK and BELIEVE.
Miyazaki does a superb job of empowering female characters. Criticize other movies (the Disney Little Mermaid).
There is enough detriment of women in this world, you don't have to invent such nonsense. Miyazaki is an advocate, you advocate shame and hyperbole.

Named old women talk to each other (and it's not about men). Lisa and her named female colleague also talk to each other.

One of the clearest full passes I've seen.

Ponyo and Lisa talk a lot, the elderly women do as well (at least three are named) even in one scene where no men are present (underwater).

We don't even have to count the exchange between Lisa and Ponyo's mother, or tge non verbal interactions that involve fish Ponyo or her sisters.
