The only two speaking female characters in the movie never meet. Also [spoilers and profane quotes ahead], one is a throwaway character with no plot purpose, chained and beaten and murdered early in the film solely to show how callous her killer is. The other is a parody of the "strong woman character" type, a tough girl who beats guys up and proclaims early that she "doesn't fuck men," but is still clearly flattered and interested when the protagonist promises he's going to "go balls-deep" into her, and propositions him in the end. Charming.

Only one of the two women in the movie is named, Dahl. The first women that we see, "Santana's Prisoner", is not given any name, so this film does not pass the first test.

I wanted to like Dahl a lot, because it would have been so awesome to see a well-developed lesbian character in a mainstream sci-fi action flick. However, her sexuality is treated by the film's writers as just another obstacle to be overcome for the title character to get with her.

I actually opened this movie, because, even if i had watched this movie a couple of days ago, i couldnt for the life of me, remember who was the other woman? i completely forgot about the prisoner, that how memorable of a character she is.
As for Nossies views on Dahl, i agree, but i found that in this movie it didnt really bother me, i guess everyone in this movie seems kind of like a parody of a stereotypical character type, or is this just me?
Victor, i thought the same, i was surprised when she had said that and it was an interesting new twist in this movie(though if they did leave her a lesbian it might have led to ''oh all strong women that can beat up men are lesbians'') i was honestly surprised and kind of disapointed at the mere moment Riddick said that to her. made me cringe. i actually stopped and thought: did this REALLY just happen?
on the other hand when she dropped on him so obviously i thought they would make a joke out of it, like her being too cool to care and him getting all cocky, but then she asked him ''nicely like''... i was sad...

I must have seen a different movie from a lot of people. Here is how I read the character's interactions:
Dahl is a (lesbian) bad ass merc who is also a girl. The character is deeply entwined in the plot. In addition to beeing in herself badass action person and a leader her social interactions with others reflect their characters, archetypical though they be.

I read the scene with Riddick in chains as him making a ridiculous ass-clowny comment, playing up his own monstrosity and antagonizing Boss Johns. And her reaction to it playful. I think it looks like she actively hates Riddick in this scene, although she likes him better when he kills Santana.

The later (contentious) scene is when she "straddles" Riddick, voluntarily. She picks up Riddick, saving him, and playing on his prediction playfully adds that she's asking "all nice like". This isn't her asking him to fuck her, nor does he. She's a lesbian after all.

It really isn't misogynistic unless you really want it to be. I just see bad ass mercs mouthing off to each other. One of them happens to be a girl.

Not that it's paving the way for feminism in movies or anything like that, but I think Dahl stands on her own like a badass mercenary. I also think Katee Sackhoffs performance managed to portray Dahl like David Twohy wanted her to: like she's good enough to take any one of the other mercs mano-a-(wo)mano

Dahl's character completely revolves around sex. All dialogue with her is about sex, the entire movie, often with her rejecting it, or it's about her lesbianness which Riddick ultimately rescues her from.

This movie did not pass 1 of 3 tests. The prisoner (credited as Santana's prisoner) is not named... they actually only call her "her" and "prisoner" which are not names. Therefore, the correct rating should be 0 of 3.
