Bechdel Test Movie List

There are several named female characters, some supporting and some minor--Scott's foster mother, Rose, the housekeeper, Gladys, and Liberace's mother, Frances--but they never talk to one another.

it makes sense to look at how characters are gendered in the films vis a vis any kind of instituional power to figure if they pass the test or not.

Oh? Is that one of the three listed criteria there?

In the first scene with Liberace's mother, the mother orders the maid "give my son some more iced tea please". Would that count for two women talking to each other (although it is obviously about a man)?

Also, even though it fails the Bechdel test, this is a film about two gay men and it makes sense that basicly every scene involves either Liberace, Scott, or both. In my opinion it gets away with it, but we will have to wait for a similar film about a lesbian couple.

Hey, this test shouldn't be used to infer some kind of moral judgement about a film, (or at least this test alone). Some films are going to fail for obvious reasons, like this one about two specific men and their relationship (what would then be the purpose of having two women talking about something else?)However, I would certainly understand some women skipping this (or other films only about men) because they could be bored to death by the subject matter, which has been done to death over the years by the film community.
