During the course of the movie it takes over a cyborg body that is female. In the English version the puppet master also has a male voice.
The main character, Motoko Kusanagi, starts off as a female human who eventually becomes cyberized whilst the puppet master was an A.I. who takes on an artificial body.
Also this version is mostly the same as the 1995 version of the film.
