Well, that's the thing: There are a bunch of named women characters, but when the biggest conversation any two of them have is drink orders, that doesn't really count.

Diane & Lacey talk about shooting heroin. Diane asks Karen about her plans for the end of the world at the dinner party. Neither are long conversations but two named women do technically talk to each other.

This is when the ratings get silly. There are barely any scenes in this movie that are not Steve Carell and Keira Knightley side by side as the 2 equal main characters talking to each other about themselves. Both characters were strong and interesting (maybe that's why no one else liked it?) and to imply that, had Knightley's character spoken to Connie Britton's character about spaghetti for a minute then the movie would become magically acceptable to discerning female critics, is the height of absurdity.

It doesn't really matter how significant you found the conversations to be, does it? It still passes the test, if not exactly with flying colors.
