Gloria briefly talks to Gia when trying to convince her to let them (Gloria and the rest of the cast) on the train.

bw disagreed with the rating and said:
Is talking about a group with men in it talking about "a man"? I have always interpreted "a man" to mean just that. A man.

If the Gloria/Gia conversation had been the one where they explained what was up with Vitaly, that would be talking about "a man."

But I don't know if "why can't you and your group, which includes men, let my group, which includes men, travel with you" is about "a man."

I don't remember said conversation at all - it must have been a typical Bechdel female to female 'blink and you miss it' type interaction!
This film offered the usual stereotypical portrayal of girls/ women that children are routinely offered by both Dreamworks and Pixar. No female is allowed at the centre of the action which is firmly rooted in the male perspective. There is space made for one, or in this case, two love interests (cheetah and hippo) with tiny speaking parts always involving the male’s problems.
There is also a non-speaking female bear (again a ‘comical’ love interest) and I guess this somehow also fulfils the male fantasy of women keeping silent.
Finally, there is the female baddy – in this cast the French cop, who needs to be thwarted and punished by the men.
This film might just squeeze through the test by the slimmest of margins, but it wears its misogyny with pride throughout!
