Conversations between two females are suprisingly limited. Grandma Joesephine talks to Mrs Bucket about Charlie's work hours, but most involve two women talking to a man (eg Veruca and Mrs Salt both talk to Mr Salt in his factory, but not to each other). This is also seen in the Inventing Room when Veruca complains to Mr Wonka that Violet got two gobstoppers. No child brings an adult of the same sex with them, and apart from a brief moment on the boat between Mr Salt and Mr Beauregarde the adults don't address each other.

But don't Veruca and Violet talk a little bit? As in, "CAN IT, YOU NIT!!" That's probably not enough to count, is it? But what about Charlie's Mom and two Grandmothers? I would think that they talk a little bit in the beginning of the movie... but I can't recall anything. It just seems like a shame that this movie would fail the test, since it is so full of colorful female characters that do receive lots of screen time.

VIOLET: Well I'm a gum-chewer, normally, but when I heard about these ticket things of Wonka's I laid off the gum and switched to candy bars instead. Now, of course, I'm right back on gum. I chew it all day except at meal times when I
stick it behind my ear.

MRS. BEAUREGARDE: Violet . . .

VIOLET: Cool it, Mother.

VERUCA: Hey, she's got two. I want another one!

VIOLET: Stop squawking, you twit!

Foggen, that quote is from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (the newer movie with Johnny Depp) not "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." It's not relevant to this discussion.

In this version, Violet is seen with her father more often, and I can't recall if her mother has any screen time.

I disagree, Gina. The quote is from the 1971 film. In that version, Violet was seen with her father more often, too, but the quote comes from when Violet is being interviewed before heading to the chocolate factory. I'm not sure Mrs. Beauregarde has a name beyond the implied, though.

When Veruca is complaining about wanting an Oompa Loompa, Violet tells Veruca to "can it, you knit!"
