Still, I found the film very different in portraying women. It was not stereotypical at all. All the women were shown as brave in fighting the aliens and not as frightend girls wo had to be saved by the men.

The only women who speak to each other about something other than a man are Sam and an older neighbor when they talk about fireworks very briefly. But the neighbor is not named in the film - so the film fails the 3rd test.
