Maybe this counts: There's a brief exchange between Ororo and Jubilee when she (Jubilee) is trapped with the other students.

Jubilee is not a named character, though. She plays almost no role at all in any of the films (except for maybe a deleted scene in the first one), and while she may be a significant character in the comics, I know a lot of X-men fans that didn't even know she was in any of the movies.

Even if Jubilee doesn't count as a main character, Storm and Jean talked to each other on their way to Germany, Storm and Rogue conversed as well, and I believe Mystique talked to either Storm or Jean though I could be mistaken.

There are several dialogue interactions with named female characters about things other than men.

When Mystique is pilfering data from the computer, Yuriko walks in and asks her (when Mystique is disguised as a custodian) what she's doing in there and she (as the male custodian) replies that she's taking out the garbage. Though Mystique is disguised as a man, she is still a female character. That is a clear interaction between both.

In another scene, Storm and Jean Grey track down Nightcrawler. They try to talk to him, but he only attempts to scare them. As he continues in the background, Jean asks Storm "Are you bored yet?" and Storm replies, "Oh, yeah."

Later, when Jean and Storm pick up the students and are attacked by jetplan missiles, Storm exclaims that there are two missiles headed toward them. Jean proceeds to destroy one with her telekinesis, and Storm immediately says, "There's one more." As it continues approaching, Storm says, "Jean?" Jean gasps when she realizes she can't stop it, which cuts to Storm immediately looking to her and Jean replies "Oh, God." when she realizes she can't stop it. The entire scene is an interaction between the two women in attempting to save the ship with some sparse dialogue and does not involve any of the other characters onboard.

As the ship plummets to the ground and slowly closes up and slows down, Storm then asks "Jean?" and Jean responds "It's not me!"

As the team meets up with Mystique at Alkali Lake, Mystique indicates where Cerebro must be. Storm asks her, "Can you shut it down from here?" and Mystique replies, "No."

Storm then recognizes that the children are imprisoned, offscreen, she asks, "Where are they?" and Mystique can be heard telling her that they are being imprisoned in a cell a level down in the base. Storm then tells the team that they'll grab the children and meet back at Cerebro, to which Jean responds that she will find Scott and meet them back. Storm asks Jean if she will be fine without them and Jean says that yes, she will be fine.

When Storm and Nightcrawler find the imprisoned children, she calls out "Jubilee?" and Jubilee calls back to her, shouting "Storm!" That indicates that both that the character is named and that the two exchange lines.

The film clearly passes all three tests.

I would say 1/3. The examples mentioned, even if you count them all, together don't even add up to a minute worth of dialogue. considering how many female characters there are in the film, and considering how long the dialogues between men are, it's insulting. I wouldn't count that as communication between women.

I don't understand how Trina could not count this as 'communication' between women. What are they doing if not communicating - particularly the dialogue between Storm and Jean on the ship. In fact the instances of dialogue between the two of them indicates not only that they are conversing, but that they are working together and have a friendly relationship. That their conversations are short has to be viewed in the context of what they're doing - which is working, fighting, planning, generally being superheroes. This definitely passes.

trina B - The Bechdel test is designed to be a ludicrously low bar. This illuminates how many movies still don't clear it.

I agree that these conversations are insultingly brief and that the writers and directors should do better, but in terms of the test, this particular movie does pass.
